The Young Family Foundation is thrilled to announce that they have awarded a total of $1 million in scholarships and grants, a major milestone for an organization that continues to serve students.
The Young Family Foundation is a local non-profit organization that was founded by the family who owns YK Communications. YK Communications has grown from a small telephone service provider to a full-scale communications company. In 2000, The Young Family Foundation was launched by YK Communications owners Raymond Young, Royce Young, and Paula Young Kacer with a mission of sharing success with the communities already served by YK Communications.
To date, more than 70 scholarships have been awarded to students who have pursued degrees ranging from nursing, biology, aviation, pre-med, business, psychology, and more.
The Young Family Foundation is excited to have awarded their one-millionth dollar to the community in the form of educational scholarships and grants. $942,000 in scholarships has been awarded to students in Ganado, Louise, Tidehaven, and El Campo for various academic and vocational programs. $145,818.28 in grants has been awarded.
The 2017 scholarship recipients are Michael Garza, Cameron Lambert, and Norma Gutierrez of Ganado High School, Shelby Koudela and McKenna McCowen of Louise High School, Danielle Bennetsen of Tidehaven High School, and Frantiska Powers and Zona Martin of El Campo High School.
2017 marked the first year that The Young Family Foundation awarded a scholarship to an El Campo graduate. The team at The Young Family Foundation says that they look forward to continuing to do so in the future.
According to The Young Family Foundation President, Paula Young Kacer, “We are so excited to support the communities that have supported Ganado Telephone Company and YK Communications since the 1940s.”
